R. L. Winston Tom Morgan Favorite Fly Rod

Tom Morgan had an indelible impact on the world of fly fishing. He was one of the foremost rod builders and designers of the past century. During his tenure at Winston Fly Rods, Tom helped the company develop the reputation they have today. His designs are considered by many to be the pinnacle of fly rod design. 

One of the rods that Tom helped create at Winston became known as the “Tom Morgan Favorite”. This is heady praise for any fly rod, and it became known worldwide as perhaps the finest dry fly rod in existence. It was first introduced in 1989 and has remained a customer favorite for over 30 years. 

The Tom Morgan Favorite fly rod is a 8’ 4wt offered as a 2-piece. It has classic spigot ferrules and the highest quality cork handle and components. The progressive taper makes for an extremely smooth rod that is ideal for delicate presentations. The touch and feel of the Tom Morgan Favorite makes it perfect for our local spring creeks, tiny tricos in places like the Missouri, and anywhere a delicate and fine touch is appreciated. 

We just received our first Tom Morgan Favorite last week, after a two year wait! This is a very special fly rod and we hope it goes to a home that appreciates it. This is a fisherman’s rod, not just another fly rod. It’s a special piece of craftsmanship that can and will perform beyond your expectations. It’s a heirloom that can be passed down and enjoyed by many. 

Tom Morgan has a personal history with Dan Bailey's and our staff here. He was a dear friend to Rick and Minori, and frequently fished with Dan Bailey. He is missed by many!
